I am not a chef.
As a girl I helped my mom in the kitchen but she did most of the cooking. I never really cooked a meal until I was married. I was lucky though because my husband never complained. He ate all those bland soups and boring pasta dishes night after night. Finally, I was fed up with my lack of culinary knowledge. I started reading different cooking magazines. Many of the techniques were foreign to me but I tried them. They didn't always work out but I learned in the process. I loved the whole creative process. I waited with anticipation to taste my work of art.(It didn't usually look like art though.) When we finally got cable TV, I started watching cooking shows and I was hooked!
It's taken many years, but I finally know my way around the kitchen. I have gotten to the point where I can come up with my own recipes that my 3 kids actually like. I've come a long way, but I was ready for a new challenge. I wanted my kids to be able to enjoy foods from all over the world. I believe that opening their minds to new flavors helps them appreciate the many diverse cultures of our world. So as a family, we decided to go on a culinary journey around the world. This is our travel diary.
